Compass International Holdings Announces Merger With Rate to Combine Mortgage Ventures

By RISMedia Staff

In another big move for the company, Compass International Holdings has announced a merger with fintech company Rate to unite the two companies’ mortgage ventures—Guaranteed Rate Affinity and OriginPoint—under the OriginPoint brand, becoming a top 10 national mortgage lender, according to a release from the two companies

Guaranteed Rate Affinity was founded in partnership with Anywhere Real Estate back in 2017, making the merger an unsurprising move due to Compass’s acquisition of Anywhere last year.

Robert Reffkin, chairman and CEO of Compass International Holdings, said in a release that by bringing the two joint ventures together, “we can now serve our clients better than ever before.”

“We can connect more great real estate professionals with more great loan officers to create a simpler, more seamless and connected experience for homebuyers,” he continued.

The merger expands OriginPoint’s resources and geographic reach, the companies noted in a release, while backing the business with Rate’s AI technology, products and lending platform. The newly expanded OriginPoint is also connected “seamlessly” to Compass International Holdings’ owned-brokerage network of more than 80,000 real estate professionals, the largest in the country.

OriginPoint was originally founded in partnership with Rate, which also assisted in founding @properties’ Proper Rate—now under the Compass brand post acquisition of Christie’s International Real Estate.

Victor Ciardelli, founder and CEO of Rate, said in a release that this merger “creates a powerhouse lending platform never before seen in the real estate industry,” citing over “200,000 buy-side purchase transactions representing more than $200 billion in purchase volume” between Coldwell Banker Realty and Compass alone.

“OriginPoint now connects the best real estate professionals and the best loan officers in the country,” he continued. “It is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for best-in-class loan officers to exponentially grow their businesses.”

Compass noted that it will continue to invest in building “the most efficient platform,” and that OriginPoint customers will receive a streamlined real estate experience, allowing them to find, secure and close on a home in as few as 10 days with a more connected, personalized experience featuring greater choice and support.

Ciardelli added that this merger is “just the beginning of what’s to come.”

“This combination brings our best-in-class team, technology, service and leadership together to create a tremendous opportunity for loan officers to take full advantage of the $200 billion in buy-side transactions available to them to win more deals and help more consumers,” he continued.

Ciardelli also said that along with giving more opportunities to Rate’s loan officers to build their business, “we’re going to recruit like crazy with plans to strategically onboard hundreds of high-performing mortgage originators across the country to serve the increased volume demands from our 80,000+ real estate partners.”
