FHFA Index: Q2 Home Prices Show SlowingBy RISMedia Staff
During the second quarter of 2019, home prices rose 1 percent, according to the Federal Housing Finance Agency's (FHFA) House Price Index (HPI), released this week. From the second quarter of 2018 to the second quarter of 2019, home prices rose 5 percent.
"House prices rose again in all states and the top 100 metro areas, but the pace of growth has slackened," says Dr. William Doerner, FHFA supervisory economist. "The majority of states and cities are experiencing slower house price gains than they did a year ago, even with constrained housing supply and extremely attractive mortgage rates." Annual appreciation was highest in the Mountain Census division (Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming), where home prices rose 6.6 percent over the second quarter of 2018 to the second quarter of 2019, and lowest in the Middle Atlantic division (New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania), where prices rose 4 percent in that period.
