Winter Staging Tips for Home SellersBy John Voket, RISMedia Columnist When it comes to selling your home, play to win by creating seasonal staging inside and out; whether or not your home is still occupied. This segment will address exterior staging during the winter. I turned to Joe Pinto, one of the top-producing real estate agents in Chicago for some tips on how home sellers can best stage their home this winter. Pinto suggests removing recreational items like bicycles, hockey nets, garbage cans and recycle bins etc. from sight-even your family vehicles, when possible, by parking them on the street or in a neighbor's driveway. This will ensure that the buyer's first impression of your home will also include your garage doors and driveway. A spacious front yard gives a feeling of more privacy, so strive for this. Another first impression for night viewings will be the light streaming out of your windows, making the home look welcoming. This means making sure the windows are sparkling clean to allow the natural light to flood in, or interior light to stream out. Another tip from Pinto is to make sure that the front door bell works and that the door does not stick. Once something does not work within a home, the buyer may wonder what else is wrong with the house. The exterior of your home can be further enhanced by lamps placed along the walkway. Solar powered lights are very reasonably priced, and push into the ground in seconds. Any snow will reflect the lamp glow and add to the curb appeal of your home. Any decorative pathways should be swept to reveal their pattern. While walkways must be shoveled free of snow, if you actually sweep them with a yard broom, it will reveal the patterning and colors that you may have. And if you are trying to show your home to its best advantage, think about removing shoveled snow to the back yard. Finally, be sure that there are no slippery spots to slip up arriving prospects. /span> |
